Shunting Shenanigans No 1 (Easy). Bucolic remoteness in the back of beyond at Jakarutu.

Your office this week.

Scenario

It's 11.15 on a fine summer morning high in the Altingablecautoj at Jakarutu.

You have been seconded for the week to provide holiday cover for Ezmelia, the wife of the local ganger, who looks after the station. The job does not seem to be too demanding and you have been lucky enough to find some pleasant lodgings at a reasonable cost.

Ithilarak (the junction) has rung to advise that train 3661 has left, loaded to 70t (including the brake). A glance at the consignment notes shows that there are two wagons in the siding which need taking back to the junction. You’ve plenty of time to decide what to do when the train arrives at 12.00.

Departure time is booked for 13.03, which should allow you to get away for a languid lunch at one of the cafes in the square. There is one slight complication in that the loco must take water before it departs which will take 6 minutes.

Hopefully if you nail this job you should be in for an easy week, almost like a holiday on full pay. Best of luck!

Jakarutu station is unusual in that it is combined with the locoshed. It's a quiet hilltop village and the station provides a secluded spot for courting teenagers who wish to avoid their elders' scrutiny during the nightly passagiato.

Jakautu.  Clearances are shown in terms of a standard 4 wheel wagon.
